Introduction |
I originally started as a figurative artist on my BA Fine Art at Leeds University. I then went on to train as a film director at the Royal College of Art School of Film and Television on the MA course, believing this to be a natural progression of my representational art work. Since then I have worked in the film industry as a film studio executive and in film acquisitions, development and as a creative producer. In 2008, realising that I missed the tactile, felt process of making an image, I returned to visual art and am now, in parallel with my work in film, drawing, painting, etching and sculpting. |

Artist's Statement |
I aim to capture not only a close physical likeness to the sitter, but a sense of their character and mood - with lyricism and sensitivity. (I can guarantee a close likeness). I also aim to produce a beautiful and enduring object in the work. Inspired by imagery that combines the spiritual, sacred and sensual, I am particularly drawn to the great draftsmen and Middle Eastern/Asian sculpture. I am now working toward a more defined vision which could become more narrative and iconic. |
Statement |
I prefer to work from life, but would be happy to refer to sketches and photographs in addition to sittings. We would need to have an initial meeting – at the proposed setting of the portrait, if appropriate - to agree on our modus operandi, taking the wishes, requirements and availability of the sitter in to account. We would also decide on the size, technique, tone and mood of the work, and the time scale involved.
I am based in central London and prepared to travel and to ship work - as required. |
