Artist's Statement |
An academic aesthetic with a contemporary twist. |
Statement |
My portraits are not just to do with likeness but capturing the essence of the person. I visit the home and spend time discussing the feel of the portrait, whether formal or informal, placement and type of the portrait, thoughts from the sitter and family members. I choose poses and props I feel represent them, encouraging family members for feedback. From there I take photographs. From these, I choose a pose that I feel will work and create the drawing. Usually drawings take up to five days. For children there are no sittings from life once the photo shoot is complete.
I predominantly work from photos but if the sitter prefers sittings, then these can be arranged at my studio in two hourly sessions. It takes about five sitting for a portrait painting. A drawing takes two sittings.
Framing can be arranged in a variety of styles if need be from hand crafted to standard mouldings. |
